Ode to Opal

I once knew your tender rage,

Evolution, turn the page,

I trusted, you loved me,

Once we were not who we turned out to be,

Pendulum suit/staircase,

Un/familiar heart/face,

Seeking luminous infinite home,

Future: unending opal road

A. Miner: Refrain

Caked in soft mud,

Squinting in sparkling sun,

I rise to a new day,

The cracked horizon, I survey,

I mined for diamonds in the depths of you,

Above ground, lime lush, you had a different view,

Golden canary of your affair sang,

I pray for strength to endure real or perceived pain,

Is this really how our paths part?

I fear there is no way out of my labyrinth heart,

Now at the center, I will follow way opening,

So shall it be said, so shall it be.

Clementine von Radics

“I am not the first person you loved.
You are not the first person I looked at
with a mouthful of forevers. We
have both known loss like the sharp edges
of a knife. We have both lived with lips
more scar tissue than skin. Our love came
unannounced in the middle of the night.
Our love came when we’d given up
on asking love to come. I think
that has to be part
of its miracle.
This is how we heal.
I will kiss you like forgiveness. You
will hold me like I’m hope. Our arms
will bandage and we will press promises
between us like flowers in a book.
I will write sonnets to the salt of sweat
on your skin. I will write novels to the scar
of your nose. I will write a dictionary
of all the words I have used trying
to describe the way it feels to have finally,
finally found you.

And I will not be afraid
of your scars.

I know sometimes
it’s still hard to let me see you
in all your cracked perfection,
but please know:
whether it’s the days you burn
more brilliant than the sun
or the nights you collapse into my lap
your body broken into a thousand questions,
you are the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
I will love you when you are a still day.
I will love you when you are a hurricane.”

Frozen Fire

We meet again in a crowded staircase,

This is the place,

Where I meet your blazing chilled stare with a smile,

I walk the labyrinth between us that spans light years of miles,

I have seen it before, slowly, the bricks will crash,

The walls, figments and flash,

I will be victorious

You will be in my past.

Venus’ Invocation

The sun will shine again,

A new beginning in every end,

Cut the rope, reverent hushed,

Nothing worth having can ever be rushed,

Muddy footprints mark the path,

Intrinsically present, future and past,

Are your tables stable? Do your bridges burn?

Are the horses heroes and from where do you return?

Is the sun heavy, its beams an amulet in your throat?

Do you cut like a dagger weaving it’s way through silver smoke?

As you take an autumn inhalation of iridescent stars,

Crackling navy scarlet moonlit bonfires and guitars,

Trust in the timing of evolution,

May you bravely step to the left and enjoy the revolution.

Rat Race

Enduring every monitored minute,

Screens flicker, keys frantically tapped as a cloud of voices competes for the attention and energy you lack,

Strained and drained,

Dehumanizing productivity,

Trumping basic human decency,

Will you be a cog? Will you settle for security?

What price is your life worth? Will you sell it for pennies?

Gate of the Deepest Darkness

Your bare feet moving across my hardwood floors

Hot ink in hand, seeking a shore,

Cyclical serpentine daydreams,

Wind their way between you and me,

Reverse the course, reverse the fault,

“Here is where your proud waves halt”

I can’t deny what I can’t claim,

Tell me your name.
